Everywhere I look, I find beautiful pieces that perfectly capture the stunning style of Moroccan interiors. My only problem is that I don’t have enough room at home for all of them! So instead, I’ll share some of my favourites with you—perhaps you’ll be able to give them a home instead.
Moroccan Home Decor Ideas: A Simple Way to Bring the Style Home
I always like to bring back a few special pieces from my travels, but that’s not always practical when you’re travelling with limited luggage.
Rather than trying to recreate every beautiful room I saw, I focused on capturing the feeling of Moroccan interiors and finding simple home décor pieces that evoke the same atmosphere.
One thing I realised very quickly is that less really is more. Instead of mixing every Moroccan style together, choose one direction and build around it. A few carefully chosen pieces will have far more impact than filling a room with lots of competing patterns and colours.
A few simple principles that work well are:
– Prioritise lighting, it has the biggest impact on the atmosphere.
– Start with one dominant Moroccan interior style.
– Add one or two statement pieces to each room.
– Balance bold patterns with neutral textures and open space
– Keep your colour palette consistent throughout.
The Heart of the Atmosphere
One of the most memorable parts of my stay in Morocco was the lighting. Evenings in the riads were never brightly lit. Instead, rooms glowed with intricately designed lanterns that cast beautiful patterns across the walls, creating a space that felt calm, warm, and incredibly inviting.
When I came home, recreating that feeling was the first thing I wanted to do.
I focused on:
– A statement Moroccan-style lantern for warm, patterned light
– Smaller candle lanterns for shelves and corners
– Warm-toned bulbs instead of cool white lighting

Table Lanterns
Moroccan-style table lanterns, whether electric or candle-lit, are one of the easiest ways to transform the atmosphere of a room. They add warmth, texture, and that distinctive patterned glow that makes Moroccan interiors feel so inviting. They also work beautifully with both the rich jewel-toned palettes and the softer neutral colour schemes I shared in my previous post.
Side Lamps
A Moroccan-inspired side lamp is an easy way to introduce the style without overwhelming a room. Look for pierced metal, coloured glass, or carved wooden bases that create soft pools of light while adding character to bedside tables, consoles, or reading corners.
Ceiling Lights
If you want to make a real statement, a Moroccan ceiling pendant is hard to beat. Whether hung over a dining table, in a hallway, or as the focal point of a living room, these lights become works of art in their own right, casting beautiful shadows and creating an instantly warm, welcoming atmosphere.
